THE KINDERGARTENS
WONDERFUL WORK A few words in praise of the work of t)ie Kindergarten Association were uttered in the House of .Representatives last night. "If one spoke for hours," said Mr. i\ M. Wilford (Hutt), "one could not describe adequately nor sufficiently the work being done in New Zealand by these kindergartens. . . The women who are devoting themselves to.that work are wonderful. If any member feels tired with the ceaseless round of his duties let him go up and spend half an hour in the kindergarten and he will come back much refreshed." This remark was endorsed by Mr. P. Fraser (Wellington Central). The Minister of Education (the Hon. R. A. Wright) said that the system followed was excellent, and the Department was endeavouring to assist it: whenever it. could. He agreed that a visit to the kindergarten was an education, even for an adult. It was wonderful what the t ladies were doing with the children, some of whom came from homes where the language was not of the choicest. The women deserved credit for what they were doing. Mr. D. G. Sullivan (Avon) suggested that the Government should increase the grant of the Kindergarten Association. The Minister said he would look into the matter. "I quite agree," he said, "'that if anything can be done they deserve it."
