A wealthy American girl crossed the ocean to acquire a little social polish. The only disadvantage under which she laboured was the fact that her father had been executed. However, she got over this hurdle very neatly, for whenever anyone made delicate inquiries concerning her antecedents she always answered, .'Oh, my dear father once occupied the chair of Applied Electricity in one of our big institutions."
