FATAL COLLISION

MOTOR-CYCLIST KILLED (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. An inquest was held to-day into the death of John William M'Kay, killed outright last night, when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a tramcar in Pago's road. A relative stated the deceased was a billiard saloon keeper. Ho was in normal health, and his sight and hearing were good. A tramway motorman named William Henderson Boag said that he saw the motor-cycle approaching in the middlo of the rails. The motor-cycle had a good headlight, and the night' was a clear one and fine. When it was several chains away witness sounded the gong and shut off the power. The cyclistkept on between the rails, and witness applied the emergency brakes slightly to enable the cyclist to get clear of the tracks, but the cyclist kept straight oh. When the motor-cycle was within 10ft of the tram witness applied the emergency brake. The motor-cycle struck the right-hand side of the tram. Thetrack was in the middle' of the road, and there was ample room for tho cyclist to pass. Witness stated that tho cycle, which was travelling at a fair speed, never left the centre of the track. At the time of the collision the tram was going very slowly. A constable gave evidence as to tho extent of M'Kay's injuries, adding there were no signs of liquor about him. Tho Coroner found no blame attachable to the motorman.
