BUDGET OF LEAGUE
WASTEFULNESS ALLEGED Australian Tress Association—United Service. GENEVA, 11th September. Directly the fourth commission opened there was a chorus of demands to cut the budget, which at present is 26,871,000 gold francs, an increase of 1,500,000 on that of last year, and 4,750,000 on that of 1927. Delegates had a tangible subject for discussion in the British draft resolution referring the budget to a supervisory committee with <t request to save at least a million francs. Mr. Locker Lampson (Britain) spiritedly demanded a check iv expansion, emphasising the fatuity of holding conferences on subjects already covered by other international bodies. It was ■wasteful to hold labour and maritime conferences separately instead or! concurrently.
