♦ THE PALMERSTON POND SWAXMNGEK APPOINTED The Wellington Acclimatisation Society mot last night, Mr. L. 0. H. Tripp presiding. Miv: E. V;- Lloyd, representing the Palmerston sub-committee, attended to prefer a requost for £25 for needed work to 'make . tho new Palmerston North fish pond suitablo as a rearing pond for yearlings. He thought it could turn out 20,000 yearlings, which would help :to supply other districts as well. The po»a,' said Mr. Lloyd, had been commenced by the Palmerston North Borough Council under the assumption that the Palmerston North sub-commit-tee would carry it on, but that had not eventuated,, and thero was also the question of £20 .rent a year, but it ■was hoped that if tli; sub-committee made the pond a success for yearlings, this would cease- to be levied. The pond had cost the Borough Council £280. The request was granted for one year in oi'der, to observe the result in yearlings. Mr. W. A. Tato (Wairarapa) asked for additional . ranging in the South Wairarapa to prevent tho stealing of swan eggsi ii Two temporary rangers •were asked for for two months, as it ■was now the nesting season. Mr. Tripe referred to the depredations of persons selling the eggs for egg pulp. On the motion of Mr. G. W. M'lntosh it was decided to appoint one temporary ranger. . Tho question of sowing feed plants in sanctuaries was raised by the eliairjnau, who mentioned a suitablo kind of Canadian rice, plants of which were -obtainable.. Mr. Tato offered to set the plants and look after them, and it was decided to make inquiries. Dr. Ansou moved that a grant of SUS be made towards tho Wairnrapa Lake Reserve. Mr. Witfen seconded the motion. The reserve was. a favourite- gathering place of shooting parties. Tho grant was made, and Mr. Tato offered to see tliat it was spent in tree planting and fencing. It would make a wonderful reserve- for both shooting and fishing, 317 acres in extent. It was resolved- to congratulate Tailapo on forming a new sub-committee and a grant of £10 was made. The Taihapc secretary wroto at length explaining the aims and needs of the anglers iv the district. In regard'to an offer to stock .the .Hangitikei with Atlantic salmon, the writers were- referred to the Marino Department. The chairman reported that an agreement for a year had been come to with Mr. Trnsk, at tho Parapnraumu Game Farm, stipulating tho production of a certain number of pheasants in return for occupation of some grazing rights. Various necessary works on tho game farm were provided for in the agreement. An application from the Raugitikei Bub-eommittoo for additional ranging on tho lakes for several months was received. ;This was referred to tho Game Committee.
