Litchfield, tho navigator of the Southern Gross, was rolicvcd physically and mentally when the driver of a furniture van offered him a "lift" into tho city from tho aerodrome. Kingsford Smith v»-as speaking from tlic balcony of tlio United Service Hotel when tho van drew up with his navigator; Litehfiold had become Koparated from the two pilots ;it the aerodrome, in the crush of the crowd after landing.
