RACING PIGEONS.

The Wellington Homing Pigeon Society commenced the racing season on Saturday with a race from Hunterville, a flying line of 101 miles. The race was confined to yearlings, and 198 birds, representing 21 lofts, were liberated by the stationmaster at 11 a.m. The following owners were the most successful:—Mr. Collins, velocity 1546 yards per minute, 1 and 2; Mr. Elliott, velocity 1537.1 yards per minute, 3; Messrs. Priddle and Son, velocity 1535 yards per minute, 4; Mr. Croskeryj velocity 1534.9 yards per minute, 5; Messrs.. ODea Bros.. velocity 1532.4 yards per minute, 6. Next week's race will be flown from Waiouru, a distance of 132 miles. •
