The death has occurred of Mr. Thomas Jowsey, a well-known sheepfarmer, aged 57, states a Press Association, telegram from Hastings. Thu Hon. Crawford Vaugh'an arrived from Sydney this morning by the Mali eno. Arrivals in Wellington to-day frnrn Sydney included tho Hon. W. F. I'iilayson, secretary of tho Australi; :i Prohibition Council, and the Hon. Crawford Vaughan, campaign director of the New South Wales Alliance. The Eight Hon. Sir Joseph Ward arrivod from Auckland this morning after returning from abroad. He took Ma seat in the House of Representatives this afternoon for the first time this session. Mr. .T. Burrough, of Winterbourne, Gloucester, England, arrived from Vancouver by the Aorangi to take up a position as assistant master at Christ's College, Christchurch. Mr. Burrough is a son of the Eev. C. J. Burrough, rector of Wintorbourne, and was educated at Lancing College, St, John* College, Oxford, and Yale University. Mr. D. Eodie, commercial manager of the New Zealand Eailways, was a passenger by tho Maori from Lytteltoa last night. ' ■ Mr. C. G. Wilson, chairman of the Wellington Cricket, Association's Management Committee, mentioned, amidst applause, at last evening's meeting of the Umpires' Association, that, although he had previously intimated he was retiring, he intended to' "carry on."
