BETTER WEATHER
BUT ONLY TEMPORARILY Tlio intense depression which has dominated tho Dominion's weather during the last week has now moved eastward, barometers rising steadily in the South. Stronp westerly winds have backed to the south-west everywhere, blowing with gale force in places during the week-end, but this morning they had moderated considerably, Akaroa being the only station to report a gale. Places with a westerly aspect have experienced unsettled and squally weather with heavy showers, there being hail in West and Central Otago. An improvement is shown this morning, however, and on the east const it has been mainly fair, although with some scattered showers. Moderate to fresh, but decreasing, south-westerly winds are forecasted, these veering to westerlies and northwesteiiies and again freshening, the change working up from the south. I Scattered showers may bo experienced at first on the west coast north of Taranaki, it being fnir to line elsewhere. A renewal of unsettled weather, especially on the west coast of the South Island, is probable by to-morrow.
