HERE AND THERE

May Extend tU(? Northerners; Pull Feather, who is destined to contest the .Wanganui Guineas, has furnished into a solid three-year-old, and has been executing attractive work of late. ■ On Thursday at Kiccarton ho showed tho way to Quarterdeck throughout a six furlong gallop on tho trial grass. Full Feather ,was. not overdone as a two-year-old,:' being; raced on eight occasions only, for a win, a dead heat, and a third placing, and indications point to him doing good service for the Chpkebore stable this season. ' '. ' ' ' New Zealand Cup Candidates. The New Zealand ■ Cup candidates, Hoylake and Front Bank, were associated in a useful gallop over six furlongs at Kiccarton on Thursday morning. The former benefited-by his races at tho Grand National Meeting, and his trainer' considers he will make good over a distance of ground; Front Bank has made wonderful progress, and, judiciously placed, J. Boyd should enjoy a profitable year with her. Hoylake ran Both good and bad races last soason, but under T. Lloyd's tuition the imported horse may yet fulfil expectations. Not a Good Lot. As a rule, in the maiden races .ran in the early spring, certain runners show distinct promise, and as the season progresses they develop into useful performers, but the races confined ,to maidens decided at Dannevirke on Wednesday and Thursday last did not contain a runner that impressed one' as likely to do well in futnre. Although unplaced each day, Gambler may turn out to be the' best. One for Later On. Honour continues to impress track watchers at Riccarton, and is improving with each sprint. During the week he was allowed to run along three furlongs on the trial grass, and showed a promising turn of speed, and finished on with determination. A High Figure. On anything he showed in this Dominion last season, Perception appears to have been well sold, at the high figure of 2000 guineas and contingencies. Certainly his early: three-year-old form suggests that Perception is likely to bo better as time goes onj as ho is particularly well bred. A Smart Sprinter. Paporciiase is fast getting.into trim, and a successful season seems to be in storo for her. She is not being hurried and will probably .make her reappearance at the Dunedin Meeting. • New Zealand-bred Horses. In South Australia early this month the four-year-old mare Boyal Debate (King. John or King Mark —Pourparlor), bred at Okawa, won a division of the Welter Handicap, seven furlongs and_ a half, at the Gawler. Meeting. Judging by the dividend, the.victory was quite unexpected—at least by the public. In West Australia, where New Zoalanders abound, Nadafino (Solfcrino—Nada)j carrying 8.11, was roturned as a suceessfud favourite in the second division of the Belmdnt Purse, six furlongs, in which there were twenty starters. .... Odds and Ends. Tho Archery (inip.)-r-Roßalita three-year-old Areheria has joined G. Jones's Btring at Awapuni.
