THE LICENSING LAW
A petition bearing 1036 signatures was presented to Parliament yesterday urging amendment of the licensing law in the direction of substituting "Light wines and ales" for the State Control issno on tho licensing ballot paper.* It was further advocated that tho liquor referendum bo taken for tho wholo of tho Dominion, that local option bo done away with, and that voting bo on tho preferential system. Confidence was expressed that the sale of light wines and beers would-be in tho direction of true- temperance.
