CASE OF PERJURY
JUDGE'S STRONG REMARKS (By Telegraph Press Association.! DUNEDIN, 30th August. "Defendant's conduct is inexcusable, and I feel that I should bo failing in my duty did I not send the matter to the police for investigation with a view to criminal proceedings," stated Mr. Justice Ostler- in the Supreme Court in giving his (decision in a case in which Thomas Henry Brown claimed £500 from George August Herbert for slander, tho words complained of being: "The car has done a bigger mileage. Brown got me to wind it back five thousand before/selling it." His Honour-said that in his opinion defendant committed perjury and suborned at least one witness to commit perjury.* Judgment, however, was for the defendant on the law point that tho words published did not show tho necessary common intention.
