A GREAT JUDGE
LATE SIR WILLIAM SIM MR. JUSTICE OSTLER'S TRIBUTE Mr. Justice Ostler, in his tribute to tho late Sir William Sim, said; "For tho past four years nearly, I havo been in intimate touch with him, and I have been able to observe tho • qualities of his wollstored mind, his methods of work, his habits, and his character. He was good enough to share my room in Wellington during tho sittings of the Court of Appeal, which placed me in an enjoyment Of a great privilege, and I had'many precious opportunities of discovering his out-look on life. "Apart from his fine mind and his groat store of legal knowledge, what struck me most about him was the simplicity of his character and tastes. He was unmarred by tlie slightest traco of pomposity or concoit. He hated ostentation and shunned publicity. He liked to push back all formality and gu to the heart of the matter. "Under a somewhat austere exterior beat a kind heart, and I shall always remomber the kindly way in which lie received and treated mo when I was first appointed a Judge. I was newly twenty years his junior.. I was only two years old when he was. called, to the Bar, and had not commenced as a law student when he was already an acknowledged leader of the Bar,, but ho treated me from the-commencement as a brother and was always ready to help me and adviso me in my inexperience:".
