PARLIAMENTARIANS
INFORMAL CONFERENCES SUBJECTS DISCUSSED Australian Press Association. OTTAWA, 28th August. Eleven informal conferences have been arranged in nine provinces for delegates to the Empire Parliamentary, Congress. The first of these opened at Montreal to-day, with tho Montreal Board of Trade. Mr. E. White, a member of the Canadian House of Commons, expressed regret that Canadian trade was now predominantly with the United States. The only effective measure whereby Empire trade could be improved was by giving reciprocal preferences. Sir Thomas Glasgow (Australia) explained the transportation problems of Australia, saying that the real objective was to link all tho railways together for a greater measure of co-or-dination. ■ Mi-. W. Nosworthy explained the transportation systems in New Zealand with tho part played by shipping concessions. The subjects to be discussed at forthcoming provincial conferences will deal with Empire marketing, wheat pools, migration, land settlement, and colonisation.
