THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT
; * Tho total area comprised in the national endowment at the 31st March, 1928, was ■ approximately 8,979,000 acres. Of this an area of 6,098,329 acres was held under lease or license by 4531 tenants, tho annual rental payable being' £137,251, while a very large area (partly,, however, covered by existing leases) ■ had boon set apart as provisional State forests. Tho total revenue derived from the endowment during tho year was £142,121. .During tho year a total area of 1647 acres was removed from the national ondowment on the application of tho lessees. In addition, a total area of 7910 acros was withdrawn from the endowment and was dealt with under section 223 of .the Land Act, 1924.
