FOOT-AND-MOUTH DISEASE
The position with respect to the risk of infection of Dominion stock from foot- ' arid-mouth disease was fully discussed, and the need for extreme vigilance was urged by several speakers at a meeting of;the'Sheep-ownerß and Farmers' Federatioh yesterday. The quarantining regulations and also those relating to the sterilisation and: burning of packing material; fodder, etc., were freely criticised, and instances were given of stock having had to' be slaughtered after shipment under a clean Veterinary certificate. .Tie farreaching and disastrous effect on the. Dominion / stockowners should this disease , once obtain a footing in New Zealand was fully recognised, and on the motion of Mr.A. V.S. Reed seconded by .Mr. W. G.-'Sherrati the following . resolution was unanimously carried:—"That the dm- ■ portatioii of all stock, including cattle, sheep," horses, pigs, Angora rabbits, bulbs, and plants from all infected countries, be prohibited." >.
