ELECTION OF OFFICERS TAXATION REMITS . The annual conference of the New Zaland Farmers' Union was continued yesterday, Mr. W. J. Poison presiding. During the afternoon delegates were entertained to afternoon tea by members of the Women's Division, who have also been in conference. This morning delegates were the guests of the "Wellington Harbour Board, a special trip around the harbour having been arranged for them. It is expected that the conference will conclude to : day. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr. W. J. Poison; vice-presidents, Messrs. B. D. Duxfleld, H. B. Stuekey, and E. H. Murney; treasurer, Mr. R., S. Chad wick; advisory committee, Messrs. A. E. Harding, W. Morrison, H. M. Rushworth, J. Preston, J. D. Hall, E. H. Sim. A resolution was carried urging the Government to follow up the report of the Sim Taxation Commission in accordance with the promise made to that effect by the late Mr. Massey. That the present methods of land valuation should be replaced by a uniform system was a remit which was carried, as was one urging the abolition of the taxation of the divisible surplus of companies. Another remit which was carried recommended that tho question of taxation of farm lands within boroughs and town boards be considered by the Dominion Conference with a view to urging tho Government to introduce legislation at next session of Parliament, enabling such local bodies to strike a differential rate. Other remits urged the Government to start immediately upon the reduction of expenditure, and to make better provision for workers' homes in country districts, providing sufficient land for the keeping of a cow, pigs, and fowls. The conference also passed a resolution urging the dairy farmers to go into the advisability of bringing about an amalgamation of co-operative dairy and cheese factories in districts where such i amalgamation would serve to lessen the overhead charges, and also to stop the obviously unnecessary multiplication of cream lorries, etc., which are passing and repassing each other in all dairying districts in New Zealand.
