CONDITIONS IN COLONIES PERMANENT OFFICIALS' TOUR British Official Witless. KUGBY, 25th July. Brigadier-General Sir Samuel Wilson, Permanent Under-Secretary for tho Colonies, leaves England on the Ist August on an official visit to tho West African colonies. Ho will be accompanied by Dr. Stanton, Chief Medical Adviser to. the Colonial Secretary, and by Mr. Holmes, of the Colonial Office. As stated by Mr. Amery, the Colonial Secretary, in a recent debate on tho Colonial Office estimates, this tpur has been arranged in accordance with the established policy of affording the permanent officials of the Colonial Offico opportunities of making themselves familiar with the local conditions in the colonies, of meeting as many as.possible of the officials serving overseas, and of discussing local problems with the authorities concerned on the spot. General Wilson's previous experience as Governor of Trinidad and of Jamaica will render his forthcoming tour of particular value. It has also been thought desirable that Dr. Stanton, as Chief Medical Adviser to the Colonial Secretary, should make himself personally familiar with the problems confronting local medical authorities in the area where public health is of vital and daily increasing importance.' . Tho party is due to arrive at Lagos on 16th August, and will visit other West African colonies in turn on the homeward journey, reaching Akra about 16th September, Freetown on 10th October, and Bathurst about 22nd October.
