ROWING
WELLINGTON CLUB The annual report of the Wellington Bowing Club states that the policy of the club last season was to give now members a chance, and a great deal of succfss could not be expected. Tho club, however, could most assuredly look for great doings in tho coming season. There were young members who, with sufficient application '. and training, would make good oarsmen. To ensure a successful rowing season coaches were a necessity, and in this connection the committee looked hopefully to assistance from those old members who had sufficient time, interest, and knowledge to coach ant] train the young members. Preparations for the coming season were to start with the annual meeting on Monday night. The report details the various regattas at which tho club was represented last season, and also refers to club and other contests. In connection with the Picton Regatta, the committee urges that earlier and more intensivo training be indulged in for this year's effort. A. notable success at the Wellington Regatta was that of G. S. Bright in winning the senior sculls, which brought the Pearce Cup into the club's possession for the first time since 1891, when W. J. Bridson won it. Bright also performed with distinction at the Championship Regatta, being runner-up in the championship sculls. The club's active membership shows an increase. So far as plant is concerned tho club has fourteen boats in firstclass repair. At the opening of the coming season all practice boats in the club-house will be ready to take the water.
