MISS ESTHER FISHER
BRILLIANT RECITAL The Concert Chamber last night re» sounded to the applause bestowed on Misal Esther Fisher, the brilliant Wellingtonf pianist, who gave a farewell recital to a) large audience. Her Excellency, Lady) Alice Fergusson was present, with 4 party from Government House. Englißy critics have hailed Miss Fisher with de» light, and have had nothing but praise ioi, her interpretative powers; her nanMj stands high among the younger generation; of exponents of pianism, and from what New Zealand has heard of her art einca her return after some years' absence, her place is thoroughly deserved. She played a delightful programme last night, and in) turn was ineffably delicate, or emphatic* ally forceful, with insight and intelligence in every item. She executed a Chopin; bracket with amazing dexterity; played . Sincerity and exquisite ,tone*4 were in her version of Schumann's poeticG Minor Sonata, the finger manipulation'^ being faultless. Breadth of vision and"-; sympathy made of Medtner's Fairy Talew in B Flat Minor a piece of pianoforte* work reminiscent of Moiseiwitsch, who^ played this more modern composition oaff the occasion of his recent visit. Huga^i Anson, formerly of Wellington, composed:] "Puck in the Belfry," a little piece fuU, of imagery, which Miss Fisher playeij with consummate charm; Havel's "On«j dine" was played by request, a poem iaij music. Then followed Debussy's charnnj ing Danse de Puck, which speaks for it*! self, capricious in mood. Grana4os wa^; represented by La Maja et Le Eossignol^, a Spanish theme full of culture and eleg«', ance. Albeniz's "Triana" was a lovely thing of sunshine and laughter. At the' conclusion of her memorable recital Misac Fisher received many bouquets and muclii applause for a wonderful performance, i
