SHEEP EXPORTS
STUD STOCK FOR ARGENTINE Sonic very' valuable stud sheep from Australi.au and New ■ Zealand flocks are in AVellington awaiting a passage to Buenos Aires in' the Shaw Savill liner Arawa. The sheep are, consigned by Dalgety and Co. to clients in the Argentine, and are for the purpose of improving their flocks. The Australian sheep consist of four very valuable stud merinos from the well-known flocks of H. E. Kater and Son, Egelabra, 'New South Wales, and three .stud Corriodales from the flocks of Mr. A. D. Wilkinson, Evandalc, Tasmania, one of the foremost breeders in the Commonwealth. New Zealand sheep included in the shipment cousist of ten stud shearling Komneys from. Mr. J. E. Hewitt, Mangamairie; one stud Lincoln ram from Mr: A. E. Andcrsou, Masterton, and two stud Lincoln rams from the New Zealand, and Australian Land Company's Moeraki Estate, Hampden; also one stud Border Leicester from the flocks of Mr. T. S. Little, Oamaru. These sheep have been most carefully selected, and are described by authorities as all excellent types of the breeds they represent. It is anticipated that the consignment will lead to repeat orders next year, because the prohibition of export of stud stock1 from England on account of prevalence of foot and mouth disease there affords New Zealand and Australia an opportunity of meeting Argentina's demand for new blood. With regard to New Zealand's own requirements in that respect, however, it is generally recognised that new Southdown blood is an almost urgent necessity, but the Government (as flock owners fully recognise and approve) is adamant against any relaxation of the prohibition, dreading introduction of foot and mouth disease into this country, in which it is happily iraknown. The need for new blood for the Dominion flocks is not pressing in respect to Komneys and Lincolns, and the demands for these breeds from South America can be fully and satisfactorily met from New Zealand flocks.
