♦ The monthly meeting of the executive council was held on Wednesday, the president (Mr. F. J. Nathan) in $he chair. Thirteen diplomas in horticulture have recently been granted, making a total of Gl The Education Department has agreed to the establishment of classes in horticulture at Technical Schools where the prescribed minimum number of students is available, and the institute has invited those desiring to attend such classes to apply for enrolment. Steps are being taken to prepare a, list of nurseries and gardens in which a student's service will be accepted as qualifying for the institute's examinations, and a list of text books is being prepared. It is intended to approach municipalities possessing suitable gardens requesting that a limited number of youths be employed ■so that students may have an opportunity of obtaining suitable employment under skilled supervision. The annual conference of the institute •mil open in Christchurch on Wednesday, 22nd August.
