INSTITUTE BEAT SEATOUN.
At Kelburn Park Institute and Seatoun met in the first round of .the Challenge Cup competition. A fairly even game resulted;in, the elimination of. Seatbun Institute winning by ,f goals to, 3. Seatoun was playing: a man'short for the major part of the game. * r The teams were:— Institute: Rogers, Gill, Bell, Rusterholz, Brownlee, Thompson, Bilby, Madddcks, Diekensoh,- May,- Smith. ■ Seatoun .-'Wyatt, Duffill, Newton, M'William,. Henderson/ Jenkins, Smyth, M'Kenzie, Kershaw, Harrop, Griinstone. Judging from the initial exchanges it did_ not seem as if there would be any decisive margirinbetwen the'two teams, but when-.quite-■early, in the game'Seatoun lost from their forward line Smyth, who was rendered hors de combat, it was obvious that Seatoun was in for an uphill fight. Although neither side played brilliant, football, it was'a good and'willing game,'the forwards on each side somewhat failing' when chances offered. Seatoun battled' bravely,, only losing ultimately by the. odd goal in "seven. Six out of. the seven goals were scored,in the first half^.Dickenson opening Institute's account. Kerhaw almost JimmedEPtely afterwards put Seatbun j level, and repeating, the feat, both goals being from corners, ;put Seatoun in the lead. Half-time, however, saw Institute in a strong position with a lead of four goals to two, Dickenson, Maddox, and May being the goal-getters^ After the interval Seatoun showed that they were by no means finished with, despite the handicap of an-absent forward, and,, the Institute defence had .several .anxious vmoments, Harrop being' successful in beating Rogers and bringing the score, up to 4-3 in favour of Institute; But that was as much as they coukjudo, despite,a really good chance towards tire end of, the- game when the Institute custodian was penalised for carrying. Seatoun, however, failed to take advantage of a golden opportunity, the game ending/without, further score. Mr.-O'Sullivan was referee.
