SOUTH ISLAND MAIN LINE COMPLETION URGED J- ~ .'V-. (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evanfng Post.") CHBISTCHUECH, This Day. After hearing g, deputation from the Marlborough and South Marlborough Progress Leagues last night, the Canterbury Progress League decided to call a conference of local bodies in Canterbury to discuss the revised report on the East Coast railway project. A committee was set up to revise the league's former report on this matter. The deputation comprised Messrs. E. ]?. Goultor (president of the Marlborough Progress League), F. Mogridge, E. T. Pope, W. Scott, H. Snushall (members of the South Marlborough Progress League), and A. Gooch (secretary). The main speaker was Mr. Goulter, who urged the completion of a main trunk railway for the South Island by linking up the 76 miles of country between Parnassus and Wharanui. "Completion of the East Coast railway is certainly a Dominion question," said Mr. Goulter. "It will mean that there will be a direct service from Invercargill to Pieton and thence to Wellington and Auckland."
