TRENTHAM TRACK NOTES
THIS MORNING'S WORK (By "Vedette") Weather rather savouring of spring than midwinter greeted trainers at Trcntham this morning. There is still a more or less dearth of visitors, but as Beau Cavalier and Kawini are expected to-day and Comical and Passin' Through have arrived, tho jumpers are showing tho way. The track was in very fair order this morning, and unless a good deal of rain falls tho going will bo better next week than is usually the case in July at Trentham. Catkin opened proceedings by sprinting half a milo in good style. Star Banger'had the Trial Plate'candidate Battle Torque to bring him homo over tho last four of six furlongs in 55sec. Star Ranger ran tho full journey in lmin 23sec. Decoy Bird and Ravine galloped half a mile down the back in 55 l-ssec. Minotus and Historic sprinted three furlongs down the back in 42sec, and then cantered,.home. Historic is tmilding up into a useful looking horse. Comical, looking bright and well, was out doing pace work over two rounds on tho sand track. Eoyal Damon was given solid threequarter pace work and hit out well. Lady Gay and Panorama together, and Radiate alone, strode along at three-quarter pace, Radiate going very freely. ' Matu and, Rotowhero galloped seven furlongs'in lmin 37'2-ssec, the last six furlongs hi lmin 23 2-Sscc. Matu'looks in first-class order for next week's jumping races. Ring Boy finished just in front of Black Mint and Dancing Star in a sprint up the back over four furlongs in 53 2-ssec. Dancing Star showed up well against her more experienced opponents and is an improved filly. Standard and Wheel schooled over four hurdles. Standard, who was ridden by C. Scott, who was associated with ■El Gallo in his Great Northern triumphs, had too much pace on the flat, and showed himself a clever and dashing fencer. He was well handled too by Scott, who should not want for mounts in jumping races from dow on. Wheel also looks an improved horse. Cabled advice has been received at Trentham that the Morris brothers and, J. Barry will be at Trentham next week. The Tof.ua is due back in Auckland on Monday, and unless she is unduly delayed she- should arrive in time for-the jockeys named to reach Trentham to fuffll engagements.
