VISIT TO CANADA
, ;— EMPIRE PARLIAMENTARIANS Meetings of Parliamentary parties were held this morning to discuss a proposal to send delegates to Canada in response to an invitation from the Canadian branch of the Empire Parliamentary Association. In order to participate in the itinerary which has been prepared, New Zealand delegates would have to leave at the end of this month, returning in October. It has been customary for New Zealand to be represented at thp gatherings of the Empire Parliamentary Association, but the situation is rendered somewhat difficult this year on account of the approach of the General Election. It is understood, however, that there is a desire for the Dominion to be represented if possible. A meeting of the New Zealand branch of the association will be held tomorrow, when the question of representation will be further discussed. Possibly not all the parties in the House of Representatives, if any, will see their way to sending delegates, in which caso the Dominion may be represented by members of the Legislative Council only. The working strength of the Council is already reduced by five absentees, four of whom will not be present at any stage of the session, and it may be arranged, that returning councillors shall represent the Dominion while passing through Canada.
