STILL SOME POTHOLES
Wellington has spent a lot of money in laying down good roads, and claims to be the best-roaded city in the Dominion, but it is hard work to convince the visitor of the soundness of that claim if he has arrived by car, for the city entrance past Lambton Station and along lower Featherston street is in very bad order. This is not a bitumenised roadway, but is surfaced with tar macadam. It never was a good surface, on account of some shortcoming in the tar used, and lately has broken up badly. Makeshift patching has been applied several times, but has generally had a short life, being knocked out in a day or two or a week or two, and so uneven i§. tho surface that probably any form of patching would bo smashed up quickly. Eventually this area may be considerably changed about as a consequence of tho new station lay-out, but that is a long time ahead, and many patches will be called for if the patch-ny policy is continued. This is the worst length of roadway in the city area.
