MADAME POMPADOUR."
Lavishly stanod and having a coherent as well ns historic plot, "Madame Pompadour," as presonted by the S. 0. Williamson Koyal Comic Opera Company at Hie Grand Opera House is something different from the usual rim of musical comedies. It is different in this way—it has a deeper plot. That it provides acceptable clianco was. demonstrated by the appreciation shown by the audience at the second production last evening and at the matinee to-day. As Madame Pompadour, ruler of tlie King, who makes or ruins men, Miss Beppio de Vrios admirably hits tho part, and it is a part that calls for more than usual ability. Miss de Vrlcs and Mr: Frank Webster, Hene (Comte- D'Etrades),. Jladame's lover arc ) heard in several pleasing duets. Hie best of which, perhaps, is "By tho Lieht of the Moon " Tho humorous side of the production falls on Hie shoulders of tho ever-popular Arthur StlKant, who," as Joseph Calicot, a poet, who "nlavs a small part in the literature of France" 'is' inimitable. Hut Mr. Stlgaut is Kiveu excellent support by Miss Vcra SimuM, the very vivacious and charming maid of Madame. The other parts arc all in capable hands.
