A HELP TO MOTHERS
"Peter and Veronica."' By Margaret Beech. London:. Herbert Jenkins, Ltd. Sir Robert Badeu-Powell commends this charming little story to parents who wish their children to learn the wonderful facts of human creation in a clean and wholesome way. He remarks that although the average people ■ are well enough educated in the "three R's" their preparation to carry out | the law of Nature in the reproduction of species is most frequently neglected or shirked by parents and teachers. Consequently they come into the possession of knowledge in a' wrong and harmful way. "The actual knowledge of the process of reproduction is not enough," adds Sir Robert, "its sanctity as service to God the Creator has to' be emphasised, and if this is done in the early stages of first instruction, it will have lasting and saving effect in the difficult years to come." The story of Peter and Veronica is very simply and charmingly told, and the illustrations are equally well done. They, and the Lonely Little Boy (who becomes an ob-ject-lesson on how not to bring up a child) como together in the country, and Mrs. Ray, the mother of the two children, takes them into the heart of Nature, and by, means of plants, insects, and animals, shows them the beauty and glory of life, explaining the different processes clearly and interestingly. Kindness to animals; personal health and hygiene, cleanliness of mind, honour, and'love of God are all inculcated in story fashion, and those parents who need help in telling their children of the wonderful mystery of life will find much help'in the little-book.
