Tho weather has been generally cold, uuscttlcd and squally with showers in most districts, some heavy falls occurring at scattered places, more especially in the South Island. Some snow has been reported at higli leTel stations In the South. Moderato to strong south-west winds to. gales have prevailed, but during last night there was a temporary change of direction to north-west at somo places, while the secondary low was crossing the South Island. The force of the wind has, however, on the whole, decreased. Tho maximum shade temperature at Wellington during tho past 24 hours actually occurred about midnight.
