LEAKING PETROL.
It was said that a recent, conflagra^ tion in an oil-store where a large por-. tion. of the stock was kept.in bulk,', was caused by tank' leakage. Let'us suppose t&at one of these tanks containing petrol had been filled to the top and had lost seven ono-hundredths of its contents, by leakage, and that three hundred and one gallons were afterwards drawn off, leaving tho container exactly -half full. If the ''tanker" (tho steamer), which brought the petrol to New Zealandj had a carrying capacity of ninety-one thousand six hundred gallons in bulk and had arrived with this quantity how' many of those containers mentioned could bo filled from her total volume?. Apart from the arithmetic of this simple problem there is a little point j liable to.bo overlooked. .'■..■:
