CITY LAND SALE.
What is probably the last of the complete town acres-in the city o£ Wellington changed hands a few days ago. Hie property, comprising practically two town acres, being the well-known Young estate, situated at the corner o£ Brougham and Elizabeth streets. Sixty years ago to-day' this land, together with an additional acre, was acquired by the. late Mr. Thomas Whyte Young tor ±.1000. He land was originally a Crown grant made to Mr. William Nicols in 1856. The whole property was held by Mr. Young until 1008, when a portion of one acre was taken by the City Council for the purpose of the construction of Elizabeth street, the remaining portion of that acre being subsequently taken by the Macation Board for an infant school. Ihe remaining two acres were hold intiict until this week, when the.land was acquired by the Provident Land and -Investment Corporation, Ltd. It is understood that the estate, which is all flat land, will bo subdivided for residential purposes, and thus the last pi the Town Acres, so long unoccupied, wifl play its part in the development of the City of Wellington. , The whole of the negotiations were carried, through by Messrs K. Pnllisei- and Co.
