FLOCKS INCREASE

Taking the value.-of' the - sheep and lambs at the very conservative figure of £1, it will be seen thaV the worth' of the additional flocks this.year-is over; £1,352,000. The increase is'made' up by both islands, and the distribution 'of the flocks is as follows:—

Legs and pieces exports for 1928 were 5931cwt, compared with 3847cwt for 1927. The prospects for the pastoral' industry, frozen meat, and wool are as bright as can be looked for. The meat export year 1927-28 has been generally satisfactory as to price of mutton and lamb, and the great; attention paid to spcialising in the latter. for the British market, together with trial shipments to the United States • and Canada,. are, meeting with receptions very encouraging for next season's export trada. Prospects for wool, so far'as this can' be seen, are stil bright, but most authorities will not venture on prophecies of the state of the market by the time the new clip of the Dominion finds its way into the sale room in November next.
