SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.

The cyclone to the eastward is now passing away, and a moderate anticyclone advancing over the Tnsinan Sea. Strong southerly winds havo continued to prevail over the North Island and north of Akaroa In the South Island, with gales and very heavy seas between the last-mentioned place and Castlepoint. The precipitation was less general than during earlier parts of the week, but heavy showers and hail havo been recorded at many places, with snbw on the high country of both Islands. Low temperatures are being experienced generally, frosts being reported as far north as the Auckland Province.
