GILLIGAN'S TRIBUTE TO HALLOWS Australian Vrcss Association—United Service. (Eccoivcd 2nd June, 2.45' p.m.-) LONDON, Ist June. C. Hallows, the Lancashire batsman, readied his thousandth run in ARiy, which has only threo times previously been accomplished, by W. 6. Grace in 1595 and W. K. Hammond (Gloucestershire) in. 1927. Speaking at a presentation to Hallows m recognition of the event, A. E. K. Gilligan said:—"You are sure- to make many more runs, not only in Manchester but abroad. I am a member of the Selection Committee and I cannot say any more." Hallows is regarded as an ideal batsman for Australian wickets. Ho is a patient left-hander who is merciless to any loose balls.
