"BON VOYAGE"
DINNER TO MR. AND MRS. LOWE IE A complimentary dinner was given at the Midland Hotel last night to Mr. W. L. Lowrie, Consul-General for the United States in New Zealand, and Mrs. Lowrie, by the members of tho Wellington Consular Corps, on the eye of their departure on a holiday trip to the 'United States. The function was largely attended. Comrnandatore Michel Blunno, Consul for Italy, presided, and there were present: —Mr. W. Tj. Lowrie, Consul-General for U.S.A., and , Mrs. Lowrie; Mr. F. Dyer, Consul for Greece,' and Mrs. Dyer; Mr. S. A. Longuot, Consul for Denmark, and Mrs. Longuot; Mr. W. G. Johnston, Consul for Netherlands, and Mrs. Johnston; Mr. G. 1\ Johnston, Consul . for Belgium, and Mrs. Thome-George; Mr. A. W. Newton, Consul for Norway, and Mrs". Newton; Mr. C. W.D. Bell, Vice-Consul for Spain, and Mrs. Bell; Mr. J. P. Martin, Consul for. Sweden, and Miss Martin; Mr. E. S. Baldwin,, Vice-Consul for Argentine, and Mrs. Baldwin; Mr. E. •J. Hyams, Consul for Czecho-Slo-vakia, and Mrs. Hyams; Mr. A. Duncan, Vice-Consul for Portugal, and Miss Scott; Mr. J. P. Martin, Consul for Sweden; Mr. B. Gotlicb, Consul for United States of America; Mr. 0. E. Bendall, Consular Agent for France, and Miss L. Dyer. Apologies for non-attendance owing to previous engagements were received from the following: —Mr. Nihotte, Con-sul-General for Belgium; Mr. Pensoler, Consul for Germany; Mr. Arthur Young, Consul for Japan; Mr. L. O. H. Tripp, late Consular Agent for Italy; Dr. A. Izard, Consul for Liberia; Mr. J. Hislop, Under-Socretary for Internal Affairs; and Mr. P. Nichols, liaison officer to tho Government. The toasts of "The King" and "The Kings; Queens, and Presidents of the Countries Represented," were proposed by the chairman. Toasting the guests of the evening, he expressed his pleasure at presiding, in view of the fact that Mr. and Mrs. Lowrie had been his personal friends during his stay in Wellington. He hoped they would return, and wished them "bon voyage." Mr. O. E. Bendall proposed the toast of "Tho Ladies," which was responded to by Mrs., Lowrie. .Tho toast of "The Wellington Consular Corps" was proposed by Mr. Dyer, its honorary secretary, who extended welcomes to Commandatore Blunno and Mr. Gotlieb.
