ANNUAL TOURNAMENT ' FINAL MATCH TO-DAY ( ' A start was made at Karori Park yesterday afternoon in the .annual hockey tournament between the four colleges—. Auckland, Victoria,1 Canterbury, and Otago—o£ the New Zealand University. Two matches were played to decide which teams are to play oil' the final for the "Seddon Stick" this afternoon.'Otago defeated Canterbury, and Victoria registered a substantial win over Aucklandlast year's winning team at the tournament in Christclmrch. Otago will tllcrefore meet Victoria to-day. The ground was very heavy, but both teams showed plenty of spirit, and some bright, interesting hockey was seen. "- OTAGO AND CANTERBURY. This match proved rather one-sided, as Otago showed far better form, although at times Canterbury pressed in hard. In the first half Otago had. things all their own way, and play centred many times in the Canterbury circle.- Edson opened the score for the Otago men, followed by Watson and Morris, both adding to their tally. At half-time the score, was 3 goals to nil in favour of Otago. Watson netted again for Otago soon after the commencement of the second spell, but Canterbury rallied and essayed several excursions to the Otago circle. They opened their score a fov minutes later when Holland netted for them, and they continued on the attack, but failed to 'make up the deficiency before the end. The final score read: 3 goals to 1, in favour of Olago. Mr. H. Hatch was the referee. VICTORIA AND AUCKLAND. The winners of last year went down to I the local team after a far brighter match than the encounter between Otago and Canterbury, and. it was not until iv the last quarter of au hour that the result was decided., For well over three-quar-ters of an hour the game was very even, both teams playing fast, interesting hockey; but with a sudden spurt jit the end, Victoria secured a very decisive win.. Auckland, through the medium of Adams,' scored first, and at half-time Victoria had failed to open their account. Soon after .the spell, however, Priestley netted for Victoria, equalising the scores. This was followed by a brisk series .of attacks, but about a quarter of au hour before the finish, Victoria, playing splendidly, rushed the -ball into the Auckland goal four times running, the scorers being Simpson (2), Sykes,' and Priestley. The final score was 5 goals to 1. Mr. R. Staples was the referee.
