A Rugby match between Eastbourne and Carterton juniors has been arranged for the King's Birthday. The Canterbury Rugby Union will celebrate its fiftieth birthday in July of next year. ■ West Coast'has entered the first challenge for the Soddou Shield this Reason. Tho match will bo played on the 28th July., Nelson, at present 'holds the trophy. . ' , The prospects .of seeing several important representative games this season have created a stir among Rugby followers on the. West Coust. The big attraction on tho Coast will be , the appearance of the Now Zealand team which is meeting New South Wales, in Tests at Wellington, Duncdin, and Christchurch. H. Udy, formerly of Wairarapa,' is now .playing in Wanganui, where ho is regarded as a 1 strong wing th'ree'-quartcr. Borroman, tho ex-Southland, South .Canterbury, and North Otago Rugby player., was full-back in the reproseutivo trial iv Wanganui. A Rugby note from Thames states: "Mick" Lomas has lost none of his old cuiining, or condition either! ' "There, was a general upheaval in Rugby circles iv Motu on Saturday night, when a meeting was held.and they, 'sacked' the chairman, secretary, and committee and elected new-officers." —Extract from a report made at a recent meeting of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union. It was a peculiar hand that Fate dealt to the country unions in their endeavour to secure Mr. J. M. Ongloy, of Palmorston North, a well-known Rugbyite and-cricketer in the past, a seat on the Management Committee of the N.Z.K.U., against Mr. Roache, of Auckland, who was supported by the' larger unions. Tho country delegates supported the Palmcrstonian to a. man, but his own. union (Ma'nawhenua) lost him the seat by putting in an informal vote. It seems a great that tho headquarters body does not contain more moinbe/s representative of the country unions instead'of so many Wollingtonites, who, perhaps unconsciously, arc all for.. Wellington (states a Rugby contributor to tlie Gisborne "Times"). It was stated at a recent meeting o£ Hie North Otago Rugby Union'that Mr. J. H, Rowe, a former member of the unio.n, and now resident in Wellington, had oll'ered to act at any time as a delegate to tho New Zealand Union. The chairman said Mr. Rowe's offer would be kept in view. If only one local delegate was appointed by the union next year, Mr. Rowe would, probably be asked to assist. ' Walter, tho Taranaki forward, is reported to be in splendid form this season. The Rugby representatives of Taranaki and Wanganui are to play at Wuuganui on Monday. Auckland's first Rugby representative match of the season will be with Wailviito at Hamilton ou the King's Birthday. Tho selection of the Auckland team is again in the hands of Mr. V. R. Meredith. During a discussion at tho annual meeting of the South African Society of Referees, on the subject of the conference with the New Zoalundors, Mr. J. D. de Villiers pointed out that it would only complicate matters it' at ,tho conference tho society's delegates split hairs. it would be-far wiser to keep to the. general ideas of the rules. The Star-Inglewood gamo, pliiyed at New Plymouth recently, was reported to bo exceedingly rough. Two players were ordered .off tho field. ' The Dannevirko Sub-Union is making a big effort to prevail upon'tho Woodvillo Football Club to rejoin tho sub-union. Woodvillo for some time past has been affiliated with Manawatu. ' D. Wi Neera, formerly of. Porirua and a member of the Now Zealand Maori team, is playing for Wainiate in Tnranaki. I. W. Campbell, a full-back in Southland, is under' transfer to Nelson. Nepia's Movements. The report that G. NcpiaJ the famous All Black full-back, will bo playing in tho Wairarapa this year is discredited iv well-informed football circles, states the Napier'"Telegraph." Nepia intended to shift to Mastcrton this year, but recently lie was seriously ill, and it is now authoritatively stated that if he plays football at ail this season it will not be till well on in the year, for he is still suffering from the effects of his indisposition. Those in a position to know of Nepia's probable movements scout the idea that he will be joining Cooke and Irvine in Masterton this year. [A later report was that Nepia was likely to play League. This is denied in a telegram received by.Mr. E. Littlo, of Wellington, from Mr. M'Farlanc, of Poverty Bay.]
