MISS M'ELDOWNEY'S PAINTINGS. 4»
Remarkable interest is being taken in the exhibition of oil and 'water colour paintings by Miss Iva MfEldowney at the Art Gtillory,, Whitmore street) where the permanent exhibition has been excluded by the Not Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, so that the public of Wellington may have an opportunity of seeing the work of one of its own citizens. Miss K'Eldownoy has had the distinction of having had her paintings hung in the exhibitions of.the 1t.0.1. and Society of Women Artists* in London, and in the Paris Salon, so that her work js of no mean standard goes without saying. The pictures on view n't the exhibition are of most varied interest, for during a four years' stay . abroad,. Miss, .M'Eldowney visited many lands, and glimpses of France, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, arid Africa, are to be seen around the walls. Among the water colours are some very pleasing interiors;* notably of cathedrals— Winchester, York Minster, Durham; Munich—and in the oil section are twp pictures exhibited at the London exhibition of Dominion, Artists, 1926—"Flower Market, Caudebec," and "Harvest Time, Normandy"; -also a Paris Salon picture, "On the Banks of the Seine, Caudebec," and "Market Day, Montreuil sur mcr," shown last year at tho Royal Institute of Oil Painters, London. These and many others, well over v hundred in fact, make up an exhibition of sound, straightforward work which lovers of tho best ■ in painting should greatly admire. 'Tho exhibition is open each day from 10 a.m. .until 5.30 p.m., and on Friday evening from 7.30 to 9.30. v
