FUR FARMING.
Hie Canadian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand is advised that the first license for muskrat farming has been received by. the Department of Agriculture of Alberta from the Department of the Interior at Ottawa. The license which, applies to a' small land and water area brings into effect the arrangement between the province and the Federal Government whereby swamp lands held by the Crown are made available for furfarming purposes. There are approximately 800 applications from farmers and ranchers similarly awaiting action at Ottawa, and it is expected that other licenses will now follow. Approval by the Federal authorities is necessary before the provincial game branch can take definite action in issuing leases for the lands applied for. ■ Indications are that there will be a big boom in muskrat farming in Alberta, as well as in other branches of fur-farming, for which the lands which may be leased are suitable. Fur-farming is a growing industry in Canada.
