MARRIAGE THE SOLUTION
• 1 When Mary Ellen Conrad, aged 20, appeared in the Magistrate's Court last week charged with the theft of a lady's coat, valued at £8, Chief-Detective Ward said that she was living with a man at Eastbourne. On learning that the man wished to marry the girl, Mr. E. Page, S.M., remanded the case for a week,, stating that the best solution of the trouble would be for the two to marry as the girl would then have some protection. The Chief Detective stated to-day, when the case was again called, - that the girl was married on Saturday last. The coat had .been worn and altered, and was practically valueless. ■. . The Magistrate convicted the accused and ordered her to come up for sentence, if called upon, within twelve months. She was also ordered to make good the value of the coat within one month.
