RANFURLY SHIELD
EYE TO POSSESSION AN EARLY CHALLENGE (By Telegraph.) " (Special to "The Evening Post.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Canterbury Ru^by Union is not to be allowed much peace so far as the Ran-. furly Shield is concerned. South Canterbury submitted a challenge on Tuesday evening, and it is well known that Wairarapa, Auckland, and Hawkes Bay, in the North Island, and Otago in the South Island, will not rest satisfied until dates are fixed. The South Canterbury Union intimated in its letter to the Canterbury Union on Tuesday that a Ranfiirly Shield challenge had been lodged with the New Zealand Rugby Union. Canterbury was asked to advise dates on which the match- could be played. ■ i Mr. S. F. Wilson: "They are coming in hot and strong with challenges, but I.think they ought to wait until the season gets a start. I can now see why Hawkes Bay, got so touchy over challenges." (Laughter.) . The matter of arranging dates with South Canterbury and the other challenging unions was left in the hands of Cantrebury delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Union.
