UNLICENSED STALKERS

Tost" rhotos.

NAMES TO GO TO POLICE At a meeting of the l'oililing and District Acclimatisation Society on Monday night, the ranger, in the Kiinbolton district reported the names of six well-known residents who were alleged to have been caught deer-stalking on the JRuahine ranges without licenses. The chairman (Mr. P. H. Stockwoll) remarked that a certain amount of poaching had been known but this was the first direct information they had received. He was afraid that the activities of those concerned had not been confined to deer, for the taking .of pigeons and other game had been suspected. The matter, in his opinion, called for drastic action as a lesson to the offenders and a warning to others. Mr. B. Durrant felt that the persons concerned should bo given '24 hours' notice to take out licenses. The chairman was against the suggestion, for its acceptance would mean that the matter would be hushed up. Mr. J. H. Hurdle supported the chairman in the view that the offenders had had a good innings, and it was time the society took action. It was resolved to hand the names to, the police for action.
