TROUBLE UP THE LINE

Again last night there was considerable disturbance of the power supply in the city and Hutt Valley—in the whole of the Wellington district, in fact —due to trouble on tho high-tension (110,000-voIt) lines from Maugahao, apparently in the vicinity of Woodville. Violent "surges" were set up, with the result that rotary converters, frequencychangers, and other running machinery in the city sub-stations were thrown out of step. Tho 280-volt system was not greatly affected, beyond the flickering and fading of lights temporarily, but there was a complete shut-down in tho 105-volt areas and considerable dislocation of tram services. Some damage was caused to ono of tho machines at Evans Bay.
