A Dutch agent has been negotiating wil.li Swedish iislicrinen for (lie purchase of scales from twm.ll Baltic herrings for the manufacture of ai'tifieial iicni'lfi. The price offered for the scales is 9d a pound. With neither bauds nor face, a clock at the Greenwich Observatory has kept dead time for the best part of a year. It is what is known as a free pendulum dock, and lias another dock which starts the mechanism to swing the pendulum.
