BLAZE AT UPPER HUTT

♦ About 9.10 p.m. on Wednesday a fire was discovered in a shop in Main road, Upper Hutt, occupied by Alexander N. Clark, draper. Tho iiro brigade was summoned, und within half an hour had the iiro under control, doing good work.in checking its spread to other shops, lho contents of the shop, drapery valued at about £2500, were practically all destroyed by fire and water. Tho stock was insured in tho New Zealand Office for £1000 in the namo of the occupier, and for £500 in the same office in the name of W. J. Ross and Co., Ltd., Wellington. Tho owner of the building is Edward Wilkie, oC Wellington, who is insured in the Now Zealand Ollico for £550. Tho fire is believed to have been caused by an electric iron being left connected.
