ROSENEATH BUS SERVICE
(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln a report of a meeting published m your issue of the 7th inst., it is stated that members present made very caustic references to the inadequacy of the present bus service (to Eoseneath).". While I was not present at that particular meeting, I can support the' reported statement by the following facts. On Wednesdaylast the 5.5 p.th. from the General Post Office to Boseneath was unable to take all the passengers wishing to travel,. t# Eoseneath. Consequently they had either to walk or take a chance of getting into a bus at Courtenay place,-or wait for the next bus, which is timed to leave the G.P.Ovat 6.5 p.m. As I was unable to travel by the 5.5 p.m. bus (through there being more passengers offering than there ' was room for), I took the tram to Courtenay place, where I found a crowd struggling to get into the 5.17 p.m. bus to Koseneath. I managed to get into th« bus, but several; persons were : left; behind. ■ ... '....-. ■■-••• ; - - ■ ■"■•"• Now that the Grafton road has been fixed up, cannot a and more continuous bus service be run through Koseneath into that part of Hataitai where there is no tram service within twenty minutes' walk? To the outsider it does seem that bus transport in a■' district where they most need it is not looked upon with very great favour by the "present council, whereas in districts where trams are running, an auxiliary, bus service is run. Many residents in this district are remarking that the motor-bus policy of th« ■present City Council does not inspire confidence in the council's claim for--serving the people's needs.;.: The council is the transport authority and has a monopoly. Surely it is ■ not going to be said of this council, with- all the talents, that it is going to adopt' a dog-in-the-manger policy so far as Koseneath is concerned.—l am. etc., . ' K. H. STICKNEY.
