TONGAN CHOIR

The only 'independent country in the Pacific.lslands, and probably the smallest kingdom in the world, has produced one of tho most remarkable musical combinations ever organised. It is a choir of 30 voices from the Tongan College and includes no less a personage than Prince Taufa himself. The choir has been thoroughly trained by the conductor (the Ecv. A. IT. Wood, M.A., 8.D.), and since they arrived in Australia early in the month . have had a triumphal tour. They are , now in Melbourne, and are to broadcast from 3LO to-morrow night. .■•'■■'... They sing'■ in English such ' popular numbers as "Hail Smiling Morn," "The Bells, of St. Michael's Tower," "Come to the Fair," and many other favourite numbers; also several Tongan chants, hymns, and dance songs, which add to the attractiveness of their entertainment. "The'Kailoa," which is in the programme, is one of tho most stirring of all Tongan dance songs—the beating of drums, the clashing of war weapons, and the playing of native instruments being very weird and aweinspiring.
