COMPARISONS

The Radio Broadcasting Company of New Zealand is now receiving revenue at the rate of about £55,000 a year, and has to operate four, broadcasting stations, says the "New Zealand Herald." A comparison of the company's resources with those of, Australian broadcasting interests is afforded by tho following details of the r.evnue distributed for: the year ended 30th June, 1927, among the ',' A" stations:—2FO, Sydney,; £50,910; •■. 2BL, Sydney. £21,818; 3LO, Melbourne, £98,30?; 3AR, Melbourne, £42,132; 4QG, Bris-. bane, £27,421; SCL, Aledaiclo, £24,808. 6WF, Perth, £4747; 7ZL, Hobart, £.1613. ■■;■.• ' Commenting on the fact that the total number of radio licenses of all kinds in New■:. Zealand at the end of 1927 was 40,056, "Thermion," writing in the "New Zea-, land Herald," says: "Tho Broadcasting Company is now receiving revenue at the rate of over £50,000 per annum, but this amount was not, of course, received during last year, as at tho beginning the number of licenses was only about 18,000. Tho rapid growth of the number of listeners did not commence until tho opening of 2YA, in July last. When tho new financial' year begins in April the "Broadcasting Company should find itself in an .excellent financial position :to provide a broadcasting servico to meet tho needs of tho moat exacting listener. It is scarcely to/bo expected that new licenses will be taken out in 1928 at the samo rate as during last yoar. However, by properly catering i'or tho needs of tho public, it would not be unreasonable to assume that tho total number of licenses will reach 00,000 by tho end of tho year."
