MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Police cases at the Magistrate's Court yesterday were dealt with by Mr. E. Page, S.M. Sydriey Charles Leckie appeared for sentence on a charge of stealing an electric iron and cord, valued at £1 15s, the property of Doris Kathleen Brady. He was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. Walter Eiley, a hawker, aged 43, who drove a horse and cart across the intersection of Cuba and Manners street on the previous afternoon against the traffic signal, and who was found by the constable to be in a drunken condition, pleaded guilty to being drunk while in charge of the vehicle. He was fined £5, in default seven days' imprisonment. Archibald M'Callum, a seaman, aged 55, admitted being idle and disorderly, with insufficient lawful means of support. SubInspector Lander Baid that M'Callum was found early this morning, sleeping out under an upturned boat in the Boat Harbour. M'Callum said he was unemployed and destitute, but could get work in the country if given a chance. He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence, if called upon, within twelve months, and ordered to go to work in the country. Jeremiah O'Eeilly, aged 70, was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment, for his third offence of drunkenness.
